This post will be dedicated to spreading awareness of the importance of education and its current standing around the world. Without a doubt, the growing years of infancy and childhood are extremely crucial in the development of a person. Despite initially being the gateway to labour or farming, education has become a way to strengthen skills, language, and well-being. However, school has one big disadvantage. It costs money, from teachers and their training to learning resources and buildings. Luckily for many first-world countries, the government gives tremendous financial support, making learning a privilege and an imperative.
Unfortunately, poorer countries like Haiti lack the funding, thus fees are passed on to the families hoping to send their children to school. As a result, girls are more than often neglected in education to save money and resources. Out of the estimated 926 million females aged 5-19 (UN World Population Prospects), 132 million girls do not have access to education (Unicef). That is about 14% of girls in the world. As a result, they will dedicate their younger years to marriage and physical labour, further widening the gender gap.
Education is an important aspect of everyone’s lives, and is most prominent in countries with the money to fund it. Since there are children who struggle to get into school, you, as a reader, have the ability to support them. Our goal here at Her Dreams Matter is to bring possibilities of healthy and productive lives to the children at Hearthstone Village by donating proceeds to the well-being and education of girls in Haiti.
